in my 55g peacock cichlid tank ive noticed some of my rocks are growing a nice brown algea on them but some arnt i was thinking that it was the filter outflow from my filter blowing on the rocks but one of the rocks beside one of the rocks thats not growing algea on it has algea away from the filter flow. im wanting all the rocks to brown up

the brown algae is diatoms, and is common in new tank setups, and IMO tanks with a high level of silicates (as in some batches of play sand, as one example). it will go away on its own after a while. i personally hate diatoms! yuck. brown sludge on stuff in my tanks? no thanks!
