Hello everyone, as sum of u may know. I purchased my first ray about 3 months ago which was a female motoro. Things are going great. And a bigger tank will be purchased in the next 2 months. So I want ur guys opinions on another breed of ray. I really really love leos but don't know if I wanna drop that much money down yet. My most expensive purchase was my motoro for 125 if i can remember correctly. I know that's chump change to sum of u lol but I'm just getting into high priced fish.

Go with another Motoro then... They are easy to keep, plenty of personalility... OR find a Marble Motoro... they can range from 200-300 for average to decent potencial, all the way from 300-500 for the high grade marbles....Or a Henlei... Do some research and check your financials, and pick one haha

Financial is not a problem. I guess it would just sux to spend 500-700 and lose it in the first week. But i guess that's the nature of the hobby

If the price is not an issue then you need to gain your confidence in keeping them or in the supplier.

No Ray should die unless something is wrong somewhere.

I do understand that it takes time to get your head around more expensive fish.

The reality of our hobby is that we are dealing with a living and perishable commodity. Trust me when I say that it's not fun finding a $1000+ fish dead on the floor, or at the bottom of the tank, but these are possibilities (albeit low possibilities, if you've invested as much into your system and knowledge as you have your fish) that you will have to deal with as you move into higher-end fish.

If you are a true hobbyist, the rewards of keeping these fish far outweigh the risks.

Go for a high quality Henlei. The price is easier to swallow than a leo and if you choose right, your ray will be just as cool. Your other option, if you're steering away from motoros, is a nice Pearl ray. One of the most underrated rays on this side of the world, IMO.

Where did you buy your Ray Ben? Im in NY too.

I searched for awhile actually before I purchased. I ended up going over the Internet to Aaron from fish in a bowl. I recommend him to any1 for anything. Even after I received my ray he was still keeping up with asking how she was doing after a month.

Henlis r nice! I guess I'm just using a hard time deciding which other breed to go with. I like them all!!

i think if the financials are not an issue then get your new tank up and running for a month longer so you know you have a good system and everything is fine. plus this gives you another month of ray keeping under your belt to help your confidence. also this way your chancing the least amount of fish in the change and is less stressfull.

so after you have your new tank going good i would say hen or leo. or spend a few days going through the photo section to see if there is something else out there to get you going.

btw what size will the new tank be?
