I am getting back in the hobby. Previously I had a 8' x 2' x 2' with a Flower and a BD. I had to sell off everything including the tank. Now I am getting a 10' x 4' x 2' and needed some advice on where to drill holes for my filtration. Ideally I would like to set up a reactor. I know this could just be personal preference but I appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

Welcome back and congrats on the new tank.

If you are planning on keeping rays I would try to not put as much as possible on the floor space, Try to drill into the sides or back of the tank for making overflows. Plan for large bulkheads for lots of flow.

I personally prefer to do my overflows to one side in the back or the side panel and have all my returns and circulation pumps come in on the opposite side for a more river like current.

I would do across the back and up top, not having the overflow box touch the ground, maybe only 6" down and 6" deep and however long it needs to accommodate the water flow

I have the H2Overflows on my 220. They are rated for 1,200gph each but they mount higher up the sides of the tank. This leaves the entire bottom of the tank completely open.

I'm planning on doing this with a upcoming build... is there any cons to this set up?

I haven't found any yet but i only have a 40 breeder done this way so far, but i plan on using it with every build from here on out, unless it's for a lake fish.

I like the over flow box style like I have, it works great skimming the surfsce. Adds lots of oxygen this way and removes oil from fish foods. I don't even have a air stone.
