Ever feel like this hobby is just taking over? While most of my friends are out with fixing up cars, keeping up with sports, politics, and things that you can universally talk about to other people...I got fish. And sometimes, I just feel like it's time to down grade or something. I just bought a Fei Feng that lasted only 6 days. Someone beat the crap out of it...Datnoids, GT, or RTC. Don't know. And of course, the lfs will only replace fish that die within 24 hours. So I'm out $32. I don't know about you guys, but any fish over $20 is a good chunk of change in my pocket. My Gulper just died recently too. That's 2 expensive fish that died on me this week. The Gulper was sick and I was trying my hardest to make it well, but I failed. I think I need to chill on going to any lfs. Anyone ever feel like this?

I was got really pissed off when I counted up many tanks my parents cracked in storage in their garage yesterday...Of course they couldn't just totally smash one...each one needs one good crack. :screwy:
-Three ten gals.
- One twenty gal
- Two five gals
- One two gal.

That's like 50-70 worth of tanks....down the drain..:(. Now I'm looking at selling them as reptile tanks, at least the ones that have not turned up missing.

Other then that...I need to get back to saving money up for my career. All this tank stuff here and there costs is cutting into my career. And I really need to start saving up for illustrator if I don't want a portfolio that looks hobbyist. Of course logically I should spend nothing on hobbies and give my career 100 % so it can pay off sooner.

Absolutely! Believe me it sucks that almost NO ONE around me cares when I brag about my fish.

As far as blowing money...I feel you! I just had my endli jump out of the tank and die on the living room floor...damn I feel stupid. I spent over a hundred on him (I know thats a bit of a gouge but they are really hard to find out here), and had him less than three months. DAAAMMMMIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
 
my $20 bgk died, $30 worth of bala sharks died, $25 worth of jurupari died, and $15 worth of community fish died in 3 days due to my stupidity.
 
Yes. Sometimes it's truly time to simplify. No weird combo's and simple fish together that you know get along. It's really addictive and easy to keep spending and growing but I've learned not to make impulse decisions truly think what fish you want while away from a computer, and focus on other stuff as well as fishkeeping. This hobby can be spend spend spend if you loose focus, and I've been there. That's one of the reasons I'm simplifying myself. Not to mention time requirments and food bills.
 
i feel similar, i normally spend more than 10$ on a fish. the most i have spent was 20$ on a baby aro but it died and i got the money back. other than the most is 9bucks for a clown loach
 
It's not so much buying fish, It's all the other stuff to keep the fish healthy and happy. But later..watch how the new filterworks, or how the new light makes the tank look. It's worth it.
 
I am now BROKE cuz of the feeling, "I need this new fish and that new tank". I have to just settle for what ive already got for now...
