ok i have finallly found discus at a reasonable price :headbang2 from i breeder i florence kentucky so its not an incredibly long drive from my house :) i was wondering how big do they get and how fast do they grow also how long could i keep 6 of them in a 55gal until i can clear oug one of my bigger tanks for them so excited for my new fishies :nilly:

You can probably keep them in a well planted 55 for about a year as long as it is very well filtered and you do not miss water changes.

6-8 discus is the max I would grow out in a 55G. Honestly I would change at least 50% of the water daily depending on their diet. Juvies love lots of food and loads of clean water! Keep the temp at 84 unless you are doing some sort of med treatment. I would only keep 4 in a 55G once they reach adulthood. Discus should reach their max size in about a year with the proper care. After they reach their max size then they start to get thicker. What size and what strain are you looking at?????

go to simplydiscusforum.com for everything you need to know about discus.

you can read all about discus and get all the help you need about discus there.

for young discus its recommended to keep them in a bare tank and do daily water change and feed like 5-10x a day. there young stage is the most important stage. if they are adults you can feed less and dont need to do a lot of water change. i usually do 50% a week when i had discus. in general most healthy discus get to about 5"-6". however with good care and genetics and strains. some get huge but not common.

discus in my opinion are pretty easy to care. as long as you start off with healthy ones from a good source. often people complain and say discus are hard to keep etc etc...is mostly because they start off with ugly bad unhealthy ones. so its important to get them from a good source.
