Hi.

I have a 100gal tank that im using to grow on cichlids in.

it currently has 12 2-3inch long fish and a small shoal of tetras.

All the water params are fine (amm 0 ni 0 na 40 kh 6 gh 4 ph 7.0) temp is 27

im using a Rena XP3 filter using the spray bar attachment and the (useless) venturi.

My fish are always struggling to breathe unless I use a powerhead with venturi. I dont want to keep using this as a) its noisy b) it creates a fast current and c) the electric!!

Any ideas what I can do?

Cheers

xp3 is not enough for a 100 gallon unless you dont have much of a stock in it. it wasnt even enough for my 75gallon, i added an ac110, korilia 4 powerhead. didnt like all the bulk, returned it all for an fx5 from ebay. and actually made money by taking the other stuff back, over 100 bucks

Use the limewood type air stones, finer/more bubbles for more surface area.

And make sure the air pump is rated for the depth of your tank.
