Ok so I am picking up a new Fx5 canister filter today for 180! I will be running it on my 125 which has 2 Ac 110's and an aquatop cf500. I am going to be replacing the aquatop with the Fx5. Anyways my plan was to fill each tray with pond matrix. My understanding was that the sponges on the side would keep the bio media clean but after searching the forum I am not 100% sure that is true. For those of you who use Fx5's as a mostly bio filter how do you arrange the media? And just how much pond matrix can this filter hold? I have 2 liters of the stuff.
