So the plot thickens. My wife has given me the okay to do a plywood tank. I have the front, back and sides from a 125 that a guy broke the bottom out of.. I was going to use two pieces and make a 14' long tank, but that idea was quickly shot down with "kurt, be reasonable." Lol. So the glass is 6 feet long, and I'm aiming for a tank 24-30 inches deep. That means that I might use the 130 for the sump, which gives me more options. I think though, that the amount of fast growing plants that I need to grow in it, I want to limit it to a single puffer that's about 6" or so.
There are some other options too. Like shrimp. keep the sump clean and provide food for the fish.
What's really attractive though.......
Use my 2 empty 75's as sumps for both the plywood and 130,
use hob filters on the 130 and put pothos or something in some of them. Probably old tetra filters that are still running strong after 25 years, and ignore the pile of aquaclears.....That would leave me with 2 75's that could have a puffer or too in it.
I would dearly love to have T. Linneatus again. The first time I had them I was a beginner. This was before the internet, so you had to rely on the LFS guys to find information on them. Consequently, they didn't get any bigger than that, were peaceful community fish and would do fine in a ten gallon tank with my sword fish. So I bought 3. That day I went and bought a 15 for them as they massacred everything else in the tank and were fighting too. Long story short, one died, and the other 2 lived out their days in a divided 55. That was the best I could do for them, and it turned out it didn't really matter, as a house fire took them out. And I do have 2 pieces of glass.....
So, if I get a couple fahakas and put them in the 130, and given good care, how fast would they grow to about 10"? That's the biggest size I'm willing to keep in an 18" tank.
