GOod evening guys and gals!.
Just coming back to the hobby...

I use to have a silver that grew up to more than 2ft till
it jumped out of the tank and killed itself...(bout 8 years ago
in asia)

Now im here in the US and just got a 55g with fx-5 recently on
craigslist that i couldnt pass up for $50. So I jumped on it.

Questions:
How long will my 55G last till I have to replace it with a 150G?

How often should I replace the charcoal on filter?

What accessories do i NEED? ( i didnt have any back then but
regular undergravel filter since I get my water from a well and changed
half of my tank every 2 weeks. and it was in the tropics, so it doesnt get cold and too hot.

Drift wood necessary? or other plants?

Any input will be appreciated!..

Thanks,

Rey

uhm depending on the size of the jar when you get it, a 55 wiill be a short grow out for the aro. drift wood isnt a good idea when they are bigger, they might get spooked and run into it eg. lose of scales or serious injuries. your going to need a heater since your in the bay area now, plants are optional if you like em. some say floating plants will help a baby aro settle in when they are still small. and charcoal really isnt needed unless you want to take out medications.

feedings... try to get it on a good quality pellet, or market shrimp, blood worms and silver sides or smelt is a good diet. dont use live feeders. and choose your tank mates wisely or just keep the jar by itself ;)

best of luck.

Colton.

Now I'm in the waiting time of cycling the tank.
1 month to do this? And how often should I replace
10% of the tank water?

i would ask this in the setup and filtration section ;)
