Hello All,
This is my first post here.
I have a 125 tropheus tank and I just built a 40 gallon sump. My pump is on order and I'd like to give this a shot before I spend $80+ on a HOB that may or may not work. I am planning on a Mag 9.5, would 2.5" work for this pump? Also I would like to pull water out from below the surface (not skim), but don't want it to drain down to the intake if the power fails. Will the basic overflow with a u-tube into a larger pvc with a tee at the top stop syphoning when the water reaches the level of the tee (on the outside of the tank) or the level of the intake on the inside of thank? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,

I split your post from the sticky thread so you'll get more responses this way.:)

Hello and welcome to MFK!

Is there anyway you can make a sketch in MS Paint and post it here? Everything sounds about right, but without knowing your arrangement, it is a bit tough to tell if you'll be OK or not.

Also, if you have Microsoft Excel on your PC, you can download and use PD Calc to determine your pump capacity and flow in your set up before you build it. The file is in this thread: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389836&page=2

If you don't have Excel, feel free to PM me and I can run the calc for you.

Good luck!

Here is what I'm thinking. I know it might seem stupid, but I want to make sure before I build it that if the power goes out it won't keep siphoning down to the level of the intake. Hopefully I linked this correctly so you can see my sucky drawing (haha)....
