I am embarking on the (mis?)adventure of building a 72" long by 22" deep by 30" high acrylic tank.

I have leaped thru a number of helpful posts and have watched many a youtube. Before I pull the trigger on this expensive order I just wanted a head nod from people that have experience.

I plan on ordering 1" thick stuff which is expensive...the thinner the cheaper (duh). I know there are calculators that give contradicting thickness recommendations. I have read this question asked on several sites but it never seems definitive to me. So, if im planning on the aquarium having a top can i get away with 3/4" thickness? Does anyone have a 3/4" aquarium about this size and did it have any issues at a given thickness?
Whats the size of your tank, how thick is it, how old is it and have you had any issues with it?

I have a 3/4 acrylic 4x the size it was built in 2009. It has a full top as well. It has no bow whatsoever

wow, must be a big safety factor in the calc I used. Ill wait a while and see what experience others have had

My 30" tank held with 1/2" but it did bow. I'd say 3/4" would be fine. No need for 1".

I agree that most calculators will tell you 1". Mine does. But you don't need it.
