From what I've read, the ich parasites cannot survive above 86F. My tank has an ICH parasite attack and fish seems to have recovered with the salt treatment. However, that does not mean all the parasites are dead right?

I was wondering if I keep the tank temperature at 88F for about a week or two, I can totally get rid of this parasites from my tank.
I am all set with the stocking of my tank so I will not be adding any new fish in the near future (so there is no risk of re-introducing it to my tank immediately). Tap water or rain water does not have ICH parasites so if I get rid of the parasites in the tank, I should be all set right?

Or else can I kill all the parasites by salt treatment? If so how long should I continue the salt treatment to ensure they are all killed?

Thanks for all the inputs.

I always continue the salt treatment for at least 2-4 weeks after the parasites have disappeared.
They have a dormant stage that can last a long time.
Also frequent water changes with vacuuming of the substrate can help remove the dormant cysts.

But at the end of that 4 weeks, is it guaranteed that all the ICH parasites in the tank are dead (no dormant parasites are present) and the fish will get ICH again ONLY if the parasites are introduced externally somehow (may be by way of new fish or plant addition)?

there really is no way to 100% guarantee a parasite is ever eradicated from a system unless the fish are all gone, the tank stripped and everything bleached... new fish ect added... But I agree w/ Duanes.. I always leave my tanks after a ICK outbreak up-to and more then a month after the initial treatment start ( I don't use salt but I just raise temps and do multiple large water changes syphoning gravel and replaceing filter media over that time frame) I can count on one hand the number of outbreaks I've had in the last 20 yrs in my different tanks.

Just be sure your treating ICK and not Velvet or other diseases that resemble an ick outbreak.

I agree with d and monster. The only way to guarentee youll never have an ich outbreak is to never own fish. I had ich that came back twice. The first two times i used rid ich and stopped treatment and the last time i used water chamges, salt and raised temp for two weeks after symptoms went away. 7 years later and no more ich

Iv been treating ick for about 2 weeks raised temperature to 29 c and added salt. Visible signs are slowly gone, but my fish seem to be gasping a bit. Is this the temperature raise, the salt, or the ick it's self doing it? How can I stop it?.

Water holds less dissolved oxygen at higher temperatures, increase your surface agitation or add an airstone IMO.

What he said. Add aeration to your tank and the gadping should stop

I have a red terror that has what i think is ich, it was fine when i got it. I put it into a tank with a jack and jag to grow it out he's around 3.5 inches, the jack and the jag picked on him so i moved him to a smaller tank.

After 5 days or so i noticed he had ich, none of the other fish in the tank have ich. Could this just be brought on from stress? should i treat the whole tank? I'm currently doing a 20% water change every other day.
