Hi guys, Elblingo again, just wondering if you have some good tips on clearing tannins? I have one large piece of driftwood in my 180 gallon, it's about 2.5 feet long and about 1.5 high, I make my own driftwood so I had done what I usually do with every other piece, a boil then let it sit in a large bucket or tub of water for about 2 months with regular water changes then reboil and a pressure clean before adding to the tank.
I've had a fair few pieces leach tannins but nothing that coudn't be cleared up by a few good water changes and good filtration, but this piece just seems to keep leaching, I don't mind a brown tinge to my water as it gives it a nice natural river look, and is probably ultimately more enjoyable for the fish then trying your hardest to get the water crystal. But my water is staying really murky, I am at the end of using Melafix for a Popeye outbreak at the moment, which I thought may be contributing to the colour.
I was also wondering if some of you ave had any real success with Seachem Clarity or the filter based Seachem Purigen? Does it work nicely with tannins, or only certain types water clouds.
Thanks, Elblingo.
