I am starting a new tank and im thinking about breeding either discus or cichlids, but i have no idea how to even get started. Any sort of help would be great.
Thanks!

Start with Convict Cichlids.....Females stand out with their orange, sometimes red, bodies.......Males are larger, and most of the tie carry a bump on their head.......A pair should cost you uder $10 total at any store.......Being the peoples' choice of feeder maker, cons are the easiest to get to breed....I have had con pairs breed for me in 10g tanks within a week of being introduced to their new tanks.........

The setup:
10g and up tank.........
A medium sized flowering pot layed on its side.......
No gravel needed.........
Temperature steady at 80 degrees.......
Food-->Hikari pellets, brine shrimp, tubifex worms...........
Fish should breed within a week, for sure two weeks they will be spawnig.........

Breeding Discus you will need at least a 55 gal. and a 20 or 30 gallon breeding tank 55 will be the main tank. Purchase 5 or 6 discus and place them in the bigger tank, should get at least one breeding pair. Water in the aquarium should be acidic and soft a pH of 6.0 and a TDS of 20 to 50 ppms is good. A little tric when pairing up discus, put in some Angels or some other type fish in the tank with them (egg eaters). The male discus will protect the female and the spawning area from the egg eaters this will tighten the bond between the pair of discus. When you see that the breeding is going to take place move the pair of discus to the breeding tank. Discus fry should stay with the parents for they need to feed off the sides of the parents. Discus are simi mouth breeders don't be alarmed when you see them put there eggs in there mouth they will spit them back out and they will do the same with there hatched fry and move them.

i like discus better but they are more expensive, its up to how much you are willing to spend, with a successful discus pair you can make the money back
