The Real Norcal
After nearly 18 years of FW,I am thinking about getting into SW.

I have not run into a FW fish that I could not get on pellets.....some were harder than others but all eventually ate rather than starving themselves.

My question is this:

would getting a small community of SW monsters onto a prepared food be a realistic endeavor?I am not sure what all prepared foods are available for SW but I know NLS is for fresh or marine and is a very good product.I also know NLS has that famous video on their site with volitans and groupers eating their pellets (or did a few years ago).

I plan to have 1 volitan,1 grouper (probably polleni) and 1-2 eels (snowflake and zebra).I would also get a gold ribbon soapfish if I could find one.

Could these fish be trained onto pellets or perhaps a mix of pellets and market shrimp?I am pretty much anti feeder.

Thanks in advance for your time on this matter.

prepared food such as pellets? sure, but i've never heard of it for eels..

prepared food like frozen silversides or frozen carnivore mix? definately

at work we get everything to eat a prepared jello-like substance (except the eels) so with patience anything is possible, we still offer things like nori and fresh (actually frozen) seafood meat, like silversides, krill, and mysis which is mostly fro the guys like the clowns, damsels, and butterflys

Salt water prepared = frozen

Okay so getting groupers and lionfish on New Life Spectrum is possible, but expecting the eels to accept it is a little far fetched of an idea?

So when you say frozen, can SW monsters eat pretty much anything from the seafood section at the market?

I would think so I wouldn't buy anything that is known to have high mercury levels or any fish that needs to be cooked to be eaten. So if I have eaten it in sushi I'll give it to my eel lol. I feed my eel fillets of sole fish its actually is cheaper than buying frozen silversides and I trust the quality a lot more.

i have pulled a few parasites out of a bulk container of frozen SS's and fresh is always preferable to frozen (of course it was prolly frozen in transit..)

but assuming it's small enough and not going to kill it (mercury, fugu etc) pretty much any fish, all crustaceans, and things like squid, mussels, clams, etc is all good in the hood

Senor, when I had SW I had several morays and then, one day, I tried some pellets which were said to be good for my triggers. The morays, all of them, devoured them in seconds and would not stop.

The brand is DAINICHI. Try it..

( what happened to the silver aro comm, my friend? )

(plus I have to move it about 60 miles soon, wish me luck!)

Just a side note:

All morays have different personalities. Some will lock jaws and battle to death, some will live in peacefull harmony for years. Just be sure to keep an eye on them for the first few weeks. And make sure the zebra is getting enough food... the snowflake is a much more aggresive feeder.

Dude when talking about pellets it determins what they are made of if they are meat based pellets you will have a easier time feeding them to your fish instead of vegetarian based pellets such as seaweed based ones. you just have to expirament. good luck
