I'd like to read how ya'all have been able to get the best color out of your Victorians..................ie; fulus-hippo pionts-ruby greens etc.........

I don’t think there is any one set way to get your vics to color up well. I think it is going to depend on a lot of factors. I believe the first of these factors is going to be tank mates, as if they are being bullied no matter what you feed them their color is not going to be great if they are being picked on. Make sure they have a couple females, they may color somewhat without them but it won’t be as brilliant as with females. Unless it is something like the P. Chromogynos, (my avatar) as he looks just as good when spawning as when not. Third feed good foods, I don’t think the type of food really matters (although some will swear it does) as long as it is a GOOD quality food and is the proper food for Africans. Meaning, good quality goldfish food isn’t going to cut it. Lol I really think it is just getting the perfect combination of all of these things that is going to give you the best color.

As natural environment as possible, good food and regular water changes. Keep in mind that how you mix the fish is a very big factor. Some do better in large groups, some in just breeding harems.

Here's a perfect example of, to my knowledge, the best Victorian Cichlids keeper/breeder in Canada.

There are so many variables that can affect a victorian's coloration. Just like Bre, tankmates play an important role. If they are too aggressive and robust for the vics, the vics will fail to fully color and will display dull colors. Just make sure you mix fish carefully and wisely. Adding females will entice the male to fully color and display magnificient coloration. However, having males of the same species will even push the male more to color even better. A second male will act as competition thus the dominant male will always be colored and displaying. Feed them a varied diet consisting of quality foods and occasional treats such as New Life Spectrum, Dainichi, Hikari, krill flakes, spirulina flakes, brine shrimp, etc. This will help bring out the colors of a very healthy flourishing fish. A good environment is always important. Have some rock work or atleast some hiding places in there for the fish, so that they can claim a territory and feel comfortable around their surroundings. Do some little water changes at least a week or once every two weeks to ensure good water quality.
