Hey guys,

Got a nice sized yellowbelly (Maquaria ambigua) for the 300gal, looks to have settled in nicely. But i'm not sure how to get it onto frozen (well, thawed) foods like basa fillets, market shrimp etc.

I'll keep the tank stocked up with yabbies (crayfish) and live shrimp. But it's a pain to have to go catch those all the time lol.

The wild caught Tandanus tandanus is eating frozen food, but it started doing that on its own when i turned the lights off and isn't an ambush predator like the yellowbelly

Here's a pic of when it was caught. Was a good lip hook, not deep etc.

Every native I have ever caught has been quick to learn how to take pellets. Bass, Gills, Crappie, Catfish, everything. Just feed them once a day round the same time and they should pick it up no problem. Don't be worried if they don't get it for a couple days, most fish don't eat on a schedule in the wild and can go days without a good meal. When they get hungry they will start taking the pellets, and after that they will fatten up quick with your regular feelings. Cool fish too.
