I have a new heater it says to plug into a GFCI outlet I don't have one near my tank now I know I could install for cheap and it's easy but I've had bad experience with electricals and don't want to mess with it.

Can I plug my heater into a GFCI power strip that's plugged into a regular outlet?

This is the exact GFCI power strip I'm thinking of

I am no expert but I believe it will work. I work on boats and some of the marinas I work in require you to plug your equipment into a gfci power strip like that.

I've done some electrical wiring in the past, and either one (the power strip and the wall adapter) will work just fine. For aquarium purposes though, I would recommend the wall adapter Gervahlt posted since with a power strip you still risk too many power trips from accidental spills or pooled water (unless it's mounted on the wall or side of the stand, which requires a bit more work than the wall adapter!)
One other thing to consider which gives the advantage to the power strip, is the fact that it can accept 3, pretty good size adapters compared to the 2 on the wall adapter.
