Hi All,

I have had this eheim filter for a while and never set it up. I got it used from a friend and I cant figure out how to take the damned thing apart. My first question for now is how do you get the damned top/pump? off? I undid the metal clips but there are plastic things still holding it in place. Does it spin? Does it lift? What the hell?

P.S. Obviously I have never used a filter like this before. Please help.

It should pull right off once you unfasten the clips. It might be a little sticky if it's been sitting awhile.

Howdy,

It pulls off once the metal clips are unlatched. It might be dried/crusted into place, though, if it is used and was put away dirty. I general, it always helps to block the inlet (bottom) with a finger and blow hard into the outlet (top) until the thing comes apart.

Good luck, it's a great filter!

Thanks!! I wasnt sure how to take it off and didnt want to risk messing it up or crack it. Once you told me it should just lift off I got a butter knife and forced it. All better now!

lol.. ya.. first time i got an eheim filter... i was concern about how to open and and not break it because it was such an expensive filter..

anyways.. glad you got it off... cleaning the impeller is the sorta the tricky part.. and you have to becareful.. otherwise you'll break the axle for the impeller.. and THAT axle alone cost $10-14bucks..

Its kinda funny cause once I figured it out it was supposed to lift off I realized I had been trying to take the pump apart lol. Thanks for the heads up on the impeller. I'll becareful. And if Im not then Ill be back ******** about it lol.

ok i got a ? about the eheim 2117 i got one just like this from a freind but the input is broke off can anybody tell me how to fix this or can i get a replacment top

The elbow fitting at the bottom of the canister is the intake. The straight fitting at the top of the canister is the output. If the top fitting is broken, I would first try to repair it with epoxy. If that doesn't work, the pump head cover must be purchased as the fitting is an integral part of the cover. The 2217 mfg. part #7633500.
