Can you add a ghost shrimp to a tank that has a single betta? I have 5 tanks set up each with its own betta, and was wondering if adding a ghost shrimp to each would help with the uneaten food. Each tank has it's own filter, either a sponge or a regular.

i'm sure that would work just fine

yes they can be added but your betta may eat them. but its not that big of a loss if you get them at feeder prices, my lfs sells them for $0.25. if you give them a hiding place they will be more likely to survive.

i have them in my goldfish tank, so far the fish have no interest in them unless they get hurt.
if your betta eats them you can try bamboo shrimp there much bigger. they are filter feeders but they eat anything they can find.

I would like to try it, but hate the thought of putting something in the tank I know probably will be a snack. :) I will find something for them to hide in first and see if it works. Even if the 2 that have spong filters in will leave them alone, that would be fine with me.
I have never seen bamboo shrimp in my area, but will look around.

It's hit or miss with bettas. I've had bettas that were so mellow you could put fancy guppies with them, sociopaths, and everything in between. Most were pretty mellow, but you never know until you put something else with them.
