So yesterday I decided that I wanted to try to add some ghost shrimp to my vampire tetra tank in hopes that they will munch of the missing scales and left over flakes from the feeders in the tank.

When I would use the gravel siphon I noticed that it was not strong enough to pick up scales from the gravel and they would get moldy until I netted them.

Immediately upon putting GS into the tank I noticed about 4 of them came scurrying up into the fakes plants and decorations with little bits of rosy reds. I would have never guessed that there would be so many chunks of dead fish in the tank.

I am still wondering though, would the ghost shrimp snack on the leftover scales as well?

I'm surprised you would have pieces of feeders. My Scomb would always swallow them whole and not leave a trace. My cudas would leave clouds of scales whenever they ate but I've never had any issues. They just disappeared into the gravel. I never even noticed picking any up when I vacuumed.

I am thinking part of the reason that I am having pieces of feeders (I believe this must be fairly new) is because the scomb is about 7" and he is only eating rosys. When ever he catches a rosy he leaves a large cloud of scales and perhaps the force of him clamping down is cutting pieces off of some of the rosys.

I normally monitor feeding, but ever since I added the scomb into the tank neither of the vampire tetras seem willing to make sudden movements during the day. If they don't eat for a day or two then they are much quicker. Normally the feeders are dissapearing at night now.

They are also both temporarily in a 20g until I finish my 40br stand and get that tank set up which could be another reason for the lack of activity.
