Ghost Shrimp Babies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Give them lots of cover (plants), and remove the adults from them if you haven't already (they will eat the young readily). Feed them copepods, rotifers or moina, you can use golden pearls to feed the larvae. Do NOT use BBS. I couldn't access this stuff for my first batch, so I used smushed up egg yolk for food, worked just fine. It'll be easier to raise them after they morph into real shrimp, the larvae are a pain lol

Mine always die...I think they may need salty water????

Depends on the species that's being called "ghost shrimp". Some need brackish water, some don't. Mine have been doing well, except when I'm not quick enough to remove the mother from the larvae and young shrimp... then they disappear, ugh.

I actually find them very easy to breed. The adults don't touch the babies at all and live in completely fresh water. I fed mine both live BBS then tried frozen BBS. Though the live BBS was accepted more quickly. I guess I got lucky and got an easy species to breed.

what would be the smallest requirements to start breeding ghost shrimp?
