I hope I got the correct forum here. I'm curious about the "ghost shrimp" that I'm sure we all have available at our LFS. Do they carry diseases / parasites as readily as the feeder fish because they are cared for in a similar manner or is it different because they have that exoskeleton? I fed them to my small puffer once and then got paranoid about disease.

I am not an expert by any means but some parasites yes. There are nematodes and other parasitic worms that use inverts like snails and shrimp as an intermediate host. Something like ich would be difficult to transfer via shrimp. Shrimp won't get cysts but it is possible, that like plants, the free swimmers could be resting on them. I do not know of any specific fish diseases that are highly likely to be transmitted by ghost shrimp in freshwater systems.

Fluke that uses snails as an example : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trematoda
