I want to give my black ghost knife some live foods. I feed it now frozen blood worms, and frozen brine shrimp. I thought that by providing some live foods such as ghost shrimp or possibly snails (if they eat snails). That my ghost knife will grow faster, and healthier.

What are some suggestions for live foods? My ghost knife is about 6" right now. he eats eagerly when I feed it, so I don't think that it would be too hard for it to eat something live.

Try more protein..like frozen Krill. Grind it up with your fingers so he can eat it though, because they have fairly small mouths and don't take on big foods well.

Brine shrimp and Bloodworms are the equivelant to popcorn and 'gushers' for humans, They aren't a very good staple diet..

At one point I had my BGK dining on some sinking soft krill pellets, but they just make a mess in the substrate because he dosnt seem to get all of them.

I doubt they will eat ghost shrimp, and I have heard of knifefish eating snails, but have never witnessed it.

Live black worms would be your absolute best. Very good nutritional wise, but will put a big dent in your pocket. Youre BGK will love you for it though!

When I feed frozen foods I use a turkey baster to put the food right in the ghosts mouth basically. I do this so that the food doesn't float around the tank and make a mess. Would this work also with frozen krill. And how about maybe some salad shrimp cut up really small. Or would this not provide any good nutrition either. \

About how much would live black worms cost, and where could I get some (on-line stores?). Also can you cultavate your own?

I have had several types of knives and all of them liked ghost and fairy shrimp as well as small molted crays.

black worms where i live cost $1 a ounce. but are a good food

heres a website, its more for scientific purposes but it carries virtually every kind of worms you can imagine, blackworms, whiteworms, all different kinds of shrimp, daphnia for any fry or really small fish, 18 different kinds of flightless fruitfly if anyone has archerfish, anyway way way to many products to list, go to the "living specimen section and you will find some crazy stuff, pretty cool actually, you can even get leaches if you want. this is the link for the living specimens section, they have more than just aquatic stuff so you have to look around a bit

wards natural science living specimens

I have a black ghost knife and I feed it bloodworms. For some reason he likes bloodworms a lot more than live foods.
