Ghost Shrimp

There is so many different types of ghost shrimp, im not exactly sure which species the ones commonly sold in aquariums is. I think the species in the trade may be Palaemonetes paludosus, but im not entirely sure. This species is native to USA, Im assuming that most ghost shrimp are actually native to the USA (because they grow in the wild here so it would be cheaper to raise and catch them here then import them) I've heard from people on here that they have caught ghost shrimp in Florida.

i could be wrong but when i lived near lake wacamal north carolina (colombus county i think) i went to this local base ball field and used to net for crawfish in the ditch, and i would pull up ghost shrimps all the time.. probly not the same ones but hey.. its a start

The ones at my LFS have got to be native cause they keep ending up with darters in their batch. I have gotten 4 swamp darters so far out of the Ghost Shrimp tank.

But I also added 5 ghost shrimp to a native tank and just wanted to keep things native. I am doing a biotope. I am keeping small natives though like bluespotted sunfish and small killifish. The Ghost shrimp might eventually end up on the Sunfishes menu though.
