You can stick about 50 in a 10g. warmer is better and they do eat flake food http://www.fishforever.co.uk/ghostshrimp.html
I am thinking of getting a few for my son's tank he has a 10 gallon and I think he would like them.
do it there awsome to wach and if you have some of different sexes they will start to reproduce and its prity cool to see the females carrying around the eggs under there bodys.

no, they'll do perfectly fine at room temp.
i take it you have a goldfish? if so then eventually it will outgrow your 10g and will likely eat the ghost shrimp if/when it can find them.
