Giant Basking Shark Caught Off Ibaraki

A 9-metre basking shark was caught in a fishing net four kilometres off Hitachi, Ibaraki on Wednesday morning. Weighing in at 4.6 tonnes, it's the largest basking shark specimen ever found in Japan.

The shark, which died soon after capture (poor thing), will be stuffed and put on display at Aquaworld Oarai.
