Giant bettas

Question. What makes a "Giant" betta different that any other betta. Is it just the size that they turn out to be by chance? And for reference can you give me a size comparison or actual length. Thanks for your patience i'm just confused, or maybe just unable to imagine the possibilities.

It really is just a size difference. Regular bettas tend to range in size of about 2.5-3", while giants tend to average 3.5-5". Most, if not all, really big giants are of the plakat or short finned variety. It's really hard to get the larger ones here in the states. I had mine shipped from thailand. Here's a pic of one of my boys that's about 4.5"
