I have been looking for some new tank mates... I like what I read about these Giant Gourami's... the place near me can get babies of these for $5.00.. should I get two? (real giant gourami, not the little ****ter knock-offs) So far I haven't had any aggression from species that normally are.. I have 2 foot long Pearsei's that are best buddies and three 8 inch chocolates that all get along too.
I'll be getting maybe a half dozen Red Parrots at the same time.. but as long as these Gourami are the latest addition and bought small, there is a good chance they'll get along too, right?

Any advise from people who have these? Anybody who has more than one in a tank together?

Just like a lot of fish, its going to come down to individuality. I've heard from people that say their gg are not really aggressive to shear terrors to all out killers. So, its a crap shoot what you'll end up with. Mine is on the fairly aggressive side with all tank mates.

I read that they tend to mellow out with age... so if I got two and they got along, I should be good for the long term, right? I figure I could always get rid of one while they're still small if I had to.

Anything can be done the question is weather or not it should check out how this guys tank is stocked. Lol and hey can you attach a picture of your tank I just saw your post and thought I'd drop in I'm really interested from that comment you left on my post and would love to check out your aquariums mean 1700 gallons wow!!
Also parrots are very slow growers I feel like they will be eaten and or harrased if not obtained at an already large or close to grown size.

Get outta here!!!!! Where was this? How did you find out about it?
That's the current record held for a wild caught giant gourami or Osphronemus goramy by the international game fish assosiation or "IGFA" apparently it isn't the only one of these fish caught at this size, the current record holder only beat out the previous by a couple ounces I found this all online right before I bought mine!
