In Your Imagination
I am getting an 18" giant gourami on Tuesday and i am wondering what you keep yours with and what you feed them. It is going into a 650gallon pond so I think that is big enough for tankmates. Any help is appreciated!

I find tha tGG's are a pain in the bottom, pestering everybody else. They don't hurt like sized critters, but stres them. Slower fish or more shy fish find it difficult to get to food. I've never kept them for long and will not keep them anymore.

There are guys, in here, however, that think otherwise and who keep them in com tanks. Ehnics, for instance, and Koji, who made an attempt at about the same time I did my last.

Hello
They get along very well with cichlids, and seeing that they are not mainly carnivorous, they do well with just about everything from 2 inch barbs up. They will occassionally eat feeder goldfish, but that's about it. As for feeding, they eat anything and everything. Moreover, at this size, don't even think about having ANY live plants in the tank, whatsoever :) And as for "anything and everything" do not leave mouth-sized pieces of toys or plastic or whatever in there, or it will get eaten as well. They love veggies, fruits, pellets.

Seem to appreciate sweet fruit. Strawberries, grapes, cherry tomatoes especially appreciated. Dont overdo things, some roughage is healthy. Cabbage and lettuce but beware of pesticides.

NOTHING should get Koi pellets as a staple.

A supplement, yes, but basically a Koi Pellet is ... there's not much in them.

Zooyork has some problems with his 16"er pestering his 19" or so tem pbass so I would think it varys by attitude with GG's.

If you have more than one, they'll keep their disputes amongst themselves mostly, but kept only with other species, expect them to push other fish around. They have mood swings (can be peaceful, can be cranky).

I keep mine with CA/SA cichlids and polys, with no issues. The GG's mainly have their spats when lights are off, evening and early morning (you can hear a splash here and there) with an occasional ripped fin, but they heal fast and well.

Variety is key in any fishes diet, all of my fish eat the following through out the day: hikari cichlid gold, tetramin color extreme granules, tetramin flake, spirulina discs, shrimp pellets, frozen krill, freeze dried plankton, and lettuce.

Their treats are night crawlers, and ghost shrimp.

What do you use as a net for fish this big? I need to bring my own net on Wednesday so I don't know what is big enough.
