Just curious here, whats average growth rate for a lanceolatus giant grouper? I know they can get up to about 8-9 feet just wondering how long it takes to get there as their all sold around 5-10 inches.

Also known as the bumble bee grouper.

In a year mine was 12 inches.

3 years they will be 3-4 feet

Most growth rate after that is unknown.

damn their some big boys. thanks for the answer ashlee

No problem, they are beautiful fish and will eventually eat and outgrow everything else. They can be highly aggressive killing them for fun as well.

Their should be a care-sheet on these groupers.....someone should develop one since many people are interested in one....don't worry we all know their going to need not big tanks.....HUGE TANKS!

Too beautiful...their colors fade over time though. None of us will ever be able to truely give this fish the tank it deserves...but we rarely manage that with any of our fish honestly. :(

you said it fleshy, sadly it's true. Fish are defiantly happier in the wild, and sometimes people treat fish like ****, nurse sharks in 200 gallon tanks and worse then that is sometime people get lazy and stop doing maintenance work/even feeding for the fish. That is exactly what happened to me with freshwater....but now their is a new chapter towards fish keeping in my life!

Its so easy to overstock, technically everything is overstocked. I guess the best we can do is keep conditions good, keep the fish happy, and when the time comes where we know its no longer appropriate, do whatever is best for the fish.
