My local fish store has just got in some giant hatchetfish. Pretty neat looking fish and from looking at their body it does look to be hatchet and it does look like a fish that can grow a good size. Does anyone know anything about these ''giant'' hatchetfish? They were labeled as rare. I suppose they are rare I can not find any information on keeping them in the aquarium hobby..
The only thing listed for them was the name.
Copied and pasted from their facebook.
Triportheus sp. ...goes good with eartheaters, etc. ... Yellow finned GIANT Hatchet 2.75"+ $25 ea Brazil
They have these at the New England Aquarium, they are kind of cool in a school and the way they swim gracefully. The question is, how big do they get, diet, etc? I can't find any information on them, I even searched Seriously Fish which is where I get most of my information from.

They are great fish, need a large tank, flexible on water conditions and should eat anything that you put in there. You should buy a few of them, 3+. Not aggressive.

BTW, what store has them?

Good to know, the LFS they are at is oven an hour and half away from me, so by the time I make it out there, they'll probably be gone.
But the store is Uncle Ned's fish Factory.
