Very much south..
Staurotypus Salvini..

Anybody acquainted with this beast?:)

Chiapas Giant musk turtleis also another way to label them, that might help on google.=]]

They are carnivores. In the wild they eat aquatic inverts, also fish and carrion.

Males are normally smaller than females.

I dont own one, and have never seen one, just helping out...

I have to admit, I care for two, and I have nothing more to offer. They eat almost any fish type item I put in front of them. Both of the ones here are about 10".

I have a Staurotypus triporcatus. Not the exact same thing but pretty similar. Don't really have much to offer either except that once it hit around 6'' he bit all the legs off of his red eared slider tankmate for some reason or another.

No, but I have a Stinkpot Musk Turtle (Sternotherus odoratus) which are somewhat simlar, except Staurotypus Salvini gets much bigger. Keep in mind he still isn't a year old and has a shell length of 1 1/2 inches. Mine will eat just about anything so feeding usually isn't a problem.

Here's a couple of pictures I took yesterday. As you can see, he's very camera shy!

Thank you guys. I was offered one as a "mexican snapper" and was told the behaviour is similar to the Common Snapper, which is a behaviour I love, in turtles..

Wuld this be an apt description?

Thank you again...

Bump..I hate to bump my own threads, but I really cannot find any relevant info on those guys...

sorry. bump.

sorry.
