I have just rang a retailer who as described the gar he has as a 'giant nosed garfish'...i have googled it but with that perticular wording it is not clear what it is?
A long Nosed gar seems to fit the description of the wording.

but then it could be an alligator.

anyone help?

I think this speaks for itself. When you are told it's definately not a Spotted or Miami and not a Pike but a Giant ( definately a long nosed sir!) and you get there........

Isn't that a hujeta?

:iagree: Definitely a hujeta/rocket gar. By no means a giant, or even a true gar for that matter. i believe its a characin (tetra) if i remember correctly. they only get to be about a foot, but they're definitely a fun fish to have. definitely a voracious eater. mine is about six inches now and is able to swallow several three inch feeder comets in one feeding. nasty little bugger too...got bit several times doing maintenece to the tank. those teeth are SHARP and will draw blood. how much are they asking for him our of curiosity?

i would imagine you could get him on pellets, but i havent tried with mine. you could probably starve him for a couple days and then try the pellets, but i feel bad starving my little guy, so he just gets feeders. i've deciced to try and breed convicts to keep up with his demand.

wrong forum, best name ive seen so far. perhaps a close second w richards spotted pike gar characin thou:D
