A couple of Ultima II filters

Why not just use 40 or 50 FX5's? (I am kidding!)

I'd never use it alone.

Its good for mechanical - and nitrate removal (the anaerobic environment) if properly set up..

Just like BadOleRoss said, return the water through a sump.

Looking at them as well today while researching the best set up for the 770.

Maybe a Hayward into a Ultima with a 6000gph pump?

Converting a pool into a pond are we?

No experience with pool filters (I do have a hot-tub), but I would think it would only have mechanical filtration (as previous poster mentioned). Your still going to need bio, which is THE most important type.

I think you would be better off building a sump (can buy 300+ gallon rubbermaid livestock bins, or build a wood tank and line with pond liner). 3000 gallons is a monster!
