Hello,

So I am not sure if I can buy a pair of gigante albino gouramis with 16" and 14" inches for my tank. I house a 15" silver arowana and other fish a bit smaller including a MM ray. I heard that they can be very agresssive and since it is a pair I am not sure if I can keep them in my tank. What are your opinions?

Also for a better view of my tank check the link in my signature.

Any further information is very welcome. Thanks

I just rehomed my 20inch silver aro because he was beating up my 12inch red tail giant gourami. The main problem was the gourami couldnt do any damage to the aro but the aro could do damage to him.

I have kept smaller gourami species and they are NOT good to have in pairs because the dominate one will beatup on the smaller one. I think the larger ones have the same personalities.

maybe the aggression would be dispursed between the 3 fish...the size difference might work out differently with your fish and your gouramis are different species then in my example...but i think it is a bad idea.

*edit- My aro is 11"inches and not 15".

Your right when i saw the pair the female was clearly beaten before by the larger male. I think leaving them as a pair is not a problem because they have been like this for 2 years now.

My biggest issue is with them against other fish, like my ray and my 8" Dollars.

my red tail giant gourami and 6 inch green terror go at it sometimes, but he ignores all of the other fish. The green terror is always the instigator in those disputes. The gourami wins and the green terror swims away. the other fish are bichirs, ghost knife and a catfish.

since the aro is smaller maybe it will work out, but i think a pair of gouramis is always a bad idea. just be prepared to have a back up plan if you need to seperate the fish.
