The story is like this, when it was around 5"ish, it was kept in horrible condition (5g tank with minimum filtration)
The fish was adopted and moved to a 75G tank and have grown to 8" in a few years. The soft tissue on the gill plate is still curled up a bit. I am just wondering if it will bend back the other way as the fish age.
it'll probably never bend back to normal position by itself, if it's just very minor and not progressing you can probably just leave it a long. keep water parameters in peak condition, throw in a good powerhead (hope it swim in the current a lot) it might help a bit.
if it's in really bad condition and progressing then you might have to surgically trim off the curled soft membrane before the hard gill plate starts to curl.
Good luck with it, seems like a good looking rhom.
When i bought my rhom the gill where curled very bad.
After operating the fish the soft part does fit against the body again. The hard gill will stay curled
