Hey everyone so my hbrtg has just got gill curl, and im planning on doing the operation on her. Shes around 13 inches

I heard that you could use Clove Oil? to knock her out? but how much do i use?

any help would be appreciated =D
thanks.

I have performed gill curl operations a few times on friends aros..every time I have used clove oil to knock them out.

I made a mixture of 9 parts boiling water and 1 part clove oil. Apparently ethanol should be used to dissolve the clove oil into the water but I have found that boiling water works fine.

Add 2ml of this solution to 5 liters of water. I also tested on a dummy fish that was a similar size before I performed on the prized fish the first time I did this operation.

After the operation move fish into fresh water in front of a power head to get the water flowing through the gills.

Make sure you perform the operation before the curl gets too bad...it is much harder to cut when the hard gill plate starts to curl.

Does anyone have any pictures of what this "gill curl" looks like? (You know, so that us noobs can watch out and take precautions)

Thanks,
Sid

Is this something anybody can do because unless i was trained in such things i wouldnt touch any of my fish, never mind a prize aro.
And why has it got gill curl?
Keep us posted how you get on buddy and good luck.

Anyone can do it...I had no experience doing so when I first performed it..it really is quite easy.

Gill curl is usually caused by bad water conditions. However having said that I know fish that have gotten gill curl and their water has been pristine..

Ok thanks steve for the info,
