gill curl

How would you go about fixing this on a rtc?
Is it really a problem, other than looks and increased risk of infection?

How big is tank? If it is big enough, just keep the water in perfect condition. i have never had rtc, but did have an arowana with gill curl. I tried meds, but giving it more space and good water was the solution. It only partially healed, but never seemed to bother it.
