hey guys! Here's the scoop.

I just picked up three, 1'' IT's.

Setup a 30g with a very small layer of white/black sand(cichlid sand).

A pre-seeded cascade 300.

1 Air pump with two stones.

A 200w heater. /i have it set on 86 for the time being.

and some 4 PVC 1.5'' T's for them to hide in.

They have been scratching themselves against whatever they can. Not constantly, but a good amount of the time when I look at them. Its usually the area underneath their head to behind their gill plates. No heavy breath from what I can tell.

ich sounds likely, but im not 100% sure. i've found that cichlids at least will often get it in their gills and it won't be clearly visible. i've never encountered "gill flukes" myself.

damn tho, temps at 86? seems a bit on the hot side unless your just doing it to treat whatever they have. work on the WC's, maybe add salt or medicate or whatever... what are you water params?

Everything is at 0 except Nitrate, which is at 10ish ppm.

Yup, I have it that hot to treat the Ich. Normal temp will be at 81ish.
Already put salt in, and have prazi-pro on stand-by. Is it safe to treat the little guys with meds so soon?

Baby dats are extremely sensitive fish. A jump in pH or a sudden ammonia/nitrite/nitrate and define their fate. So keep the temperature at 86-88 to prevent ich and to keep them healthy and active. As for the ich, continue with hight temperature, and add salt. Yes, table salt is ok so is aquarium salt. I would rather believe lupin about table salt being fine than the whole population of fish keepers. He is very good with fish diseases, i recommend PMing him.

81ish is not appropriate for young datnoids. They need a constantly high temperature and you can gradually lower it as they get to 4-5"

ALL tigers rub themselfs its normal unless you see white spots its not ick

r u sure? :confused:i thought table salt had iodine, which is why kosher or aquarium salt is the better option.

true. all my tigers flick themselves. never had any whitespot in 5 years.

Megalops, u may be treating when its not required, making matters worse.

I kept 6 baby indo at 80 for about 2 months with no problems what so ever the ate and grew as the same rate that they did when they were kept at 85.

personally I think that As long as you are consistant With ph nitrate feeding ect etc. It dosent matter what temp you keep them at. (with in reason)

And all my dats like to ich themselves to. Even the big ones. I think that they just get iches sometimes. Just cuz you have an ich dosent mean you sick. :)

And DONT put regular table salt in your tank! just go the safe road and use aquarium salt. Who knows what chemicals they put in table salt.

If they had ich.you should be able to see the spots. It sounds like they may have gill flukes or some other parasites and it would'nt be a bad idea to treat the tank with some anti parasite medication. The thinbars usually come in loaded with flukes and have to be treated promptly. It is a good thing that you have'nt noticed any rapid gill pumping.
