I have a couple of discus that have turned very dark and I can even see what looks like parasites sticking outside of the gills. Is is possible to treat them with just warm water and salt?

Use Potassium Permanganate. You might be able to find it at a swimming pool store or you might have to order it online. Its cheap and the best to use for external parasites. You can do a search on how to use it on the internet.

Flukes are microscopic. What did you see exactly?

I used PraziPro, main ingredient...praziquintel. However, I would follow Lupins post and attempt to confirm your problem. maybe post a pic.

You cannot see gill flukes. Also, aside from heavy breathing and scratching or "flashing" off objects in the tank, there aren't many symptoms of flukes. It'd have to be a really bad case in order to make your discus turn dark.

Have you added any new fish recently? If so, were they quarantined? Also, post your water parameters (nitrite, ammonia, nitrate, pH, temp). When's the last time you did a water change?

Ya details would be good. GILL FLUKES would have to be HUGE to be seen. Warm water is a natural way to help DISCUS get better. I use any where between 90-100 to help my fish turn around. IT WORKS, its also per jack wattley (THE FORE MOST EXPERT). BUT again do some investigation first.

ARE THEY STILL EATING WELL?
