I noticed my Saba Puffer flashing one evening, observed an enlarged gill plate on one side and what appeared to be rapid respiration. I immediately started it on Paraguard and followed up with Maracyn the next day.

Three days into the treatments there was no noticeable improvement and started a run of Maracyn 2 and discontinued the Paraguard after 5 days.

After the Maracyn, Maracyn 2 and Paraguard the fish was still flashing (specifically on the gill plate) and going through coughing motions, but I believe that there was some improvement which I believe was a result of the Maracyn 2. I also noticed during all of this that it is only using one gill, the enlarged side.

Now I am my last day of Furan 2 and my 5th day of PaziPro and flashing (forceful) is still present.

I think that it is safe to assume that it is not bacterial, parasites should have also been eliminated. My next "guess" is to do a run of Panacur, unless someone has a better suggestion?

Water parameters, SG 1.05 ish, temp 78, ph 8.1 ish and my daily 50% water changes are taking care of the A/N/N

I would have guessed maybe flukes, but the prazipro should wipe that out.

It's hard to say where to go from here. Using too many medications in a short amount of time can add stress to an already stress out fish.

But, if it's still flashing, its most likely a parasite problem. I use Parasite Clear from Jungle Labs (I bought a bulk 100 tabs for $20). Works great for me.

Good point, I may just wait 48 to 72 hours, clear out the water column and see what is happening at that point.

Bumping up the SG to at least 1.12 is another option that I may go with also, all my bacteria has got to be dead anyways.

It is not a constant flashing, but when I do see it, it is with great force concentrated on the gill plate. Hopefully it may be just irritated damaged tissue ...
