Hey everyone.

I have a 125 that has 4 approximately 7-8 inch long Pbass (I think all are monos) in it. They're off live, and have been having a few minor scuffles recently. Nothing serious, just a puffing out of the gill plates and mouth and a bit off chasing.

I noticed something while at class today while I was looking at pictures on my laptop. It appeared that the top rear corner of one of the basses gill plates was bent out a little bit. I would thing this was just a result of a little "disagreement" but I have dealt with gill curl in my friends catfish before and want to make sure this isn't how it starts on the bass. I got home to see, and It was definitely out a little. The soft gill "cover" I guess is what I would call it, is still against the body, but the plate that appears to be hard is what is bent. I don't think its GC.

I have a few of the pictures that made me realize that it was like that, and I circled the spot in red. Just looking for some opinions on if you think it was just from one of their little fights, as I do, or something more serious.

By the way, It may be asked, so the water is pristine, and parameters are perfect aka zeros except for nitrate, which is around 40. Ph 7.4, Weekly 75% W/Cs.

Excuse the quality, they are phone pictures and I didn't have time to get new ones today, but by clicking on them you can zoom in a lot to get a better look.

Thanks

Nobody has seen this before?

May just be a minor abnormality there gill curl would come on everywhere not in just a little spot typically ....Also to me it does not look like the soft membrane but the hard plate unless i am missing something....

my red acara has something similar, turns out it was due to a fight with the other acara as well as a minor growth. She is doing fine however and the plate has not gotten any worse. Just keep an eye on it...

Alright thanks.

And HULON, you are right. When I described it, it was a bit confusing, but I meant to say that it was the hard plate and not the soft membrane that was bent.

I think it's GC but I could be wrong. How long have you had the fish?

mmm, maybe 4-5 months? I really, really don't believe its GC, but I could be wrong. What bent out is not soft like the cases of GC I've seen.
