Giraffe cat

I would think a 3 foot fish would need at least a 300.
Most tank sizes for fish profiles on the net are grossly undersized.

i dont know about gallonage. You are gonna need something thats at least 40" deep, and 6 to 7 feet long to start. Ive yet to see one that exceeds 30" but i have heard reports of them getting that big in the wild and some members who have had them over that mark. They are very active fish, so size is not something to be skimped on. As for growth rate, ive never kept a rtc, but ive heard about its growth rate, and having kept two giraffes i dont see them as the same. The giraffe is fast but not to the same extent as a rtc

I would love to get a Giraffe Cat for my 8X3X3 but I'm not sure if my tank is wide enough. If you get one for a 150, an upgrade will definately be necessary.

I usually say the width of the tank should be the length of the fish, the length of the tank should be roughly 3x the length of the fish. If you can offer a fish at least that, you're usually doing pretty good, everything bigger is a plus.
