from what i have read on the net these fish need allot off places to hide one sight says with out them the giraffe cat may go off it's food my tank is a 500 gal but it has no decoration just a sand substrate is this ok or should i pout some hiding places in for him ...

is your fish showing signs of distress?

normally, it'll adapt pretty quickly and get used to not having a hiding place.

but, if make it more "natural" for the fish, then you'd want to add one but I don't think it's a life or death thing.

it dos not seem stressed moves around and plays in the sand it's just the sights that i went to were making it sound like a life or death thing In austratlia these fish are very hard to founb cost me over $500 which is why im a bit paranoid

hiding places are difficult as it is. These fish get large and are super strong. So that makes it hard to form anything that they wont eventually tear down. Mine only hid when it was younger, now he comes out from under the rocks when i come in the room.

Mine never hid even at a small size. I think you'll be fine.
