I got a giraffe nosed catfish a little over a week ago. He is about 5-6 inches long and is in a 180 gallon aquarium. Ive chexked the levels in my tank swveral times and all are good. I have not witnessed himeating at all. I feed shrimp, sinking pellet, and blood wotm, and granules. Hes burries himswlf in the rocks a lot and I'm not sure if that is noraml. I have datnoids, geos, clown loachrs, and severums in the tank with him. None of them even act like He exists. Any information is helpful. Thanks
I just went thru this with my rtc... Check your tank temps and look for thebiggerthebetter's reply on this as I'm hoping he will get in on it, he helped me tremendously.
He may come out at night and sift through the substrate. Hes also settling in so give him time. It took mine a little while to get adjusted. Mine loves shrimp pellets so that might be somthing good to try. When you feed try turning the tank lights off, give it a little bit then feed and see if he comes out.

Thanks for the info. That site was helpful. I do feed sinking shrimp pellets once a week or so. I have the standard lights that come.with An.aquarium do you guys think the.lights might be too bright?
I use bright light and mine is fine, but I have black gravel so its darkened up a bit. I think time is all you need. Once he gets used to things he'll be more outgoing. They are just more active at night.

Having kept 3 species of auchenoglanis, never had eating problems as they usually have very good appetites but I think water temp could be an issue. I always kept my tanks at 76 degrees for auchenoglanis and related parauchenoglanis species. 80 degrees is possibly too warm for a giraffe cat. Looking up info on them @ PlanetCatfish reveals that at least auchenoglanis occcidentalis, the most common variety, prefers water temps from 68.8 to 77 degrees....
