Can anyone tell me the species on my new giraffe catfish??

What’s the growth rates like?

Got him 2 days back now and he doesn’t eat much and hides a lot

TIA

It should be 1 foot in 6-10 months, 1.5 feet in roughly 2 years. Perhaps 2' in 3-4 years. Can grow bigger.

It looks like they like pellets. They are substrate sifters in the wild.

Thanks buddy...I see that mine loves pellets but will only eat when he can’t see that anyone is around watching him...

I’m hoping for some fast growth so I can add him to the 500 gallon

The fish is so fresh, it is merely still adjusting. In the absence of any other sources of stress, it will be feeding well soon whether or not anyone's watching. If not, there must be some form of stress.

Consider, please, coming back to this thread and keeping this a blog or a journal on this one fish. I notice you never do it for any of your fish ... whilst we'd be learning with you and from you and helping you along should there be questions or issues. I believe you'd find the hobby even more enjoyable too.

Just saying. No expectations though. Needless to say, do as you will.

Will do, sorry I normally get carried away with fish keeping but I will definitely keep the thread going

Thanks again
