What's the growth rate like on these guys.

Not to fast but you can look at about 1 foot in the first year with the right food, space and water conditions. I have found in the past from a friend who kept one in a 3foot tank and feed on blood worm the fish was 8inches in a year till i took it off his hands and put it in my 150g sadly my red had him for breakfast one morning a week befor she was going in the pond typical.

I assume it was not fed on blood worm only? A mixed diet is very important.

It was till i got it and some flake thats why it didant grow very much

If you feed feed feed they can grow very fast. Mine was over 12" easy in one year. but they slow down alot after 20" I've had mine for something like 3 years. I got him when he was a skinny 3.5" and now he's 2' and thick as a softball.
