Have an old (well 3 month) 40 g tank that I recently drained and was wondering what I should do with it. I was thinking about turning it into a sump (any links on how to make a good, cheap, DIY-do it youself sump would be appreciated)s. Also I was thinking about making a convict tank to feed the offspring to my larger fish. I am getting a biocube for saltwater soon so i wouldnt be looking for a new tank with multiple fish. If I got more fish in it I would want it to be a breeder tank as stated above. Anyway I have to go to LA and wont be back till 2 am :( so Ill recheck this forum again! much thanks for the ideas guys!!!!!!!:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

fish wise? hmmm, do you want a community? or cichlids? not really on the ball with community fish but i do know alot about some cichlids!

you could do,
1 firemouth
1 convict
1 salvini

thats it for cichlids and for dithers,
8 giant danios
8 black skirt tetras

thats it for dithers and for pleco,
1 male 1 female bristlenose
or
1 male bristlenose
1 male rubberlip pleco

thats what id do anyways lol

I would do the convict tank... While not a really efficient way of getting feeders it is still cool to have some extras every once in a while and it is just fun to breed them.

Chad

with that 40g tank, I would put a redfin wolffish aka erythrinus erythrinus.

If you want feeders a 40 would be big enough for a group of sailfin mollys.. these will produce often, and get larger then other livebearers. will def out-breed a pair of Cons. otherwise it can certaintly make a nice sump ( DIY section was littered with how-toos)

You want feeders do worms. That all my fish eat now and their growth and health is awsome. Just buy about 60 worms get a small tote with soil with no chemicals and let her rip. u can put bananas in it and other waste for them to eat.

o and a red wolf fish would be sweet in a 40 gallon alone. I have a common wolf aka MALA, and i just love this species of fish

Thanks for all the input! The worms idea intrigued me as I would of never thought of that:) livebearerfreak where would you buy giant danios? did a google search and nothing for sale really came up. the reason i ask is that I used to have like 30 "mini" danios in a 50 g and they were hardy as hell, survived a 32hr power outage while I was out of town lol. are red fin wolf fish a cool fish? Ive never heard of one before this forum :P Anyways much thx for the input! Ill recheck this tomorrow so keep the post comming!

well, as for today, I bought my self a red fin wolf fish, and I put it in a 40g tank same like yours. A solo predator I'd say..
