Sorry to copy you Cyclops but all this puffer talk made me want to show off my own... Well i just got him about a week ago. My uncle has been hanging onto him for about a month untill i could get my 55 galon tank up to standards for a fahaka (which is just a grow out tank). Did about twenty water tests untill it was just right and now it is so hopefully I can enjoy Gizmo for a few years. He is only 3 '' now but he takes down small crayfish with ease...his diet at the moment consists of only market shrimp and crayfish...I have him with two burmese loaches but i don't know how long they can dodge Gizmo for...I'll try to give updates once a month on this little monster...wish me luck because i've had anything but bad luck with Fahakas.

actually i have many lessons learned due to fish loss...i have 3 for fahakas....the largest i have gotten a fahaka to is about 6 inchs i lost that one to something that was not my fault ...the hearter in my tank broke so in kept increasing the temp of the tank and i noticed when i saw a huge welt on his side from being burned by the heart (cage ur hearters with plastic) another was to a bad batch of feeders that was the first one (don't feed fahakas anything but the many sorts of shell fish) and lastly was simply to water issues...tried to rush the preparation of a tank)

final words of advise....know all there is to know about fahakas before purchasing, and please be patient.:clap

can fahakas be feed store bought clams??? or do they need to be alive?

Fahakas can grow an inch a month in their first year after that their growth rate slows it could be a few years until he reaches full size.

At 3" you should feed him small meals 6 times a week. Cockles mussels, Bloodwork, Krill, Shrimp on shell, Snails etc...

As he gets bigger every other day then every few days.

Get him into a bigger tank (125g) and he will reach his maximum size. Keep him in the 55g he'll never get that big.

Just how it goes with Fahakas.

Nice looking little fahaka.

He's looking good. With many water changes and plenty of food, he'll get huge in no time. Mine went from 2" to 14" in a year.
